Six decades of preserving Sindh's literary soul
The Mir Masoom Shah Library stands on Minara Road in the heart of Sukkur, in the shadow of the historic Minar-e-Masoomi. Established in 1965 by the Sukkur Municipal Corporation and inaugurated by Ghulam Nabi Memon, the library was named in honour of Mir Muhammad Masoom Bakkari — the celebrated 16th-century historian, poet and Mughal governor of Sindh.
Today the collection holds close to 18,000 volumes , spanning Sindhi literature, rare manuscripts, reference works, periodicals and an ever-growing digital archive. Generations of students, researchers and civil-service aspirants have found their footing within these walls.
Now operated by the Government of Sindh , the library continues its founding mission: to keep the door to knowledge open, free, and welcoming to every citizen of Upper Sindh.

Mir Masoom Shah appointed Mughal Governor of Sindh under Emperor Akbar.
1600
Tarikh-i-Masumi, his landmark history of Sindh, is published.
1618
The towering Minar-e-Masoomi is completed in Sukkur.

Operations taken over by the Government of Sindh.
